WOW! A long way from Karazhan | Atlanta Maternity Session

I met this next little princess in Karazhan. Oh, you haven't heard of it? I don't blame you. Karazhan is a bit outdated and doesn't quite draw the crowd it used to. Yes, it was a long time ago, indeed. This was back when my heart burned with desire for Handwraps of Flowing Thought and I spent hours per day collecting herbs from Zangarmarsh and Terokkar Forest for use in the various tonics and potions I concocted. As you have probably guessed, Karazhan exists only in that vast domain known as cyberspace. And yes, I did, once upon a time, devote great gads of time to the game World of Warcraft. My best friends had names like Pocky, Mentoku, Carreden, Felaura and Prilexis. It is with a mixture equal parts shame and pride that I tell that my journey wasn't nearly over when we reached Karazhan. I went on as a Guild Officer to explore dungeons and cities all over the WOW world in until I finally gave up in Pandaland.  You see, somewhere about 2009, my photography business began picking up and I no longer had time to farm for honor, farm for materials, and raid into the wee hours of each night.  It pained me to give up the game, not because the game is that engrossing (it can be) but because over the course of months (nay, years) of playing and talking with the same people every night, you develop strong friendships.  I met some of the best friends I have ever had or will ever have in that game.

Sitting here thinking back about meeting Ashley, it seems like a long time ago. On the other hand, it seems like only yesterday. In game, we used ventrilo, a voice over ip system, to speak to one another on headsets. (Can you say NERD!?) One night I heard this sweet little southern voice pipe up and I immediately sent her a message, "Where are you from?"  It turned out that she and her mother, who also played with us lived only about a 15 minute drive from me.  So, being me, I promptly made arrangements to drive over and meet them!

Two life-long friendships were born that night and I'm so glad that I played wow and that I took that short drive to meet my guild mates.

I was super excited when Ashley announced her pregnancy and asked me to shoot her maternity session.  I love taking portraits, but it's even more special when you're shooting people you love.

Here some of my favorites from our session:
